Temperature Regulation in Adults with Insomnia and Tourette's Disorder (TRAIT)

This project evaluates the preliminary effects of four weeks of frontal cerebral thermal therapy (forehead cooling) on insomnia in adults aged 18 to 50 years with Tourette's disorder and co-occurring insomnia disorder. Procedures involve measurement of objective sleep patterns, subjective depression, anxiety, and daytime sleepiness, and interview ratings of tic severity. Findings have implications for utility of a non-medication intervention tailored to underlying neurobiology of insomnia to treat hyperarousal in TD.
